This page should be read as a technical performance note for ABS Core, not as a universal certification of production latency.
Interpretation model
Performance discussion for ABS Core should be separated into three categories:
- Engine-only latency — isolated policy-engine execution.
- Runtime-path latency — interception, policy evaluation, and governed runtime handling.
- End-to-end latency — the full request path including surrounding infrastructure, network, and deployment effects.
These categories should not be merged into a single headline number.
Credible performance posture
The most defensible current position is:
- the isolated engine path may achieve low single-digit millisecond latency under favorable warm conditions,
- runtime-path overhead depends on which control layers are active,
- and end-to-end performance must be evaluated against the actual governed workflow and deployment topology.
This is more credible than presenting one global latency claim for every deployment.
What a serious benchmark package should show
A reproducible benchmark package should specify:
- exact target under test,
- deployment topology,
- request mix,
- concurrency model,
- warm versus cold behavior,
- and whether the result is engine-only, runtime-path, or end-to-end.
Where all of that rigor is not yet published, benchmark results should be treated as directional engineering evidence rather than universal proof.
How to discuss performance publicly
When describing ABS Core performance, prefer statements such as:
- policy evaluation is designed to be lightweight enough for governed execution paths,
- warm-path engine performance may fall into low single-digit milliseconds under favorable conditions,
- and workflow-specific validation is required before using benchmark numbers as deployment commitments.
Avoid collapsing platform performance into a single number detached from topology and control-layer configuration.
Buyer and operator guidance
Technical diligence should request:
- reproducible benchmark scripts,
- environment configuration,
- hardware and runtime details,
- representative policy sets,
- and workflow-specific measurements for the intended deployment.
That is the appropriate standard for evaluating infrastructure performance claims in a self-hosted governance stack.
